dc.description.abstracten"The white shrimp Penaeus vannamei is one of the aquaculture species with the highest economic value worldwide and the most important in Mexico. The rapid growth of the aquaculture industry requires the application of different strategies to reduce production costs, among which is feed. One of the strategies used in aquaculture is the temporary restriction of feed and subsequent refeeding to satiety, which generates a phase of accelerated growth known as compensatory growth. The present work aims to evaluate the effects generated by compensatory growth on digestive enzyme activity, metabolic turnover rate and the intestinal bacterial biota of shrimp P. vannamei under different feeding regimes. Three treatments were evaluated, which consisted of 3 (T3) and 6 (T6) days with 70% feed restriction followed by a period of feeding to satiety, as well as a control treatment without restriction periods. The results showed a complete compensatory growth in treatments T3 and T6 at day 35 of the bioassay. A significant increase in trypsin and lipase activity was observed during compensatory growth, while specific amylase activity was significantly lower in treatment T6 compared to the other two treatments. To determine the metabolic turnover rate, an analysis of δ15N nitrogen isotope values at natural abundance levels was performed. Shrimp under food restriction had lower metabolic turnover rates and higher residence times (t50) compared to individuals in the control treatment. Regarding the changes in the bacterial communities present in the shrimp, no significant differences were observed at the phylum level, with Proteobacteria being the most abundant bacteria, followed by Actinobacteria. At family taxa level, Rhodobacteraceae comprised more than 90% of the relative abundance in all treatments, while a decrease in Vibrionaceae was shown in treatments T3 and T6 compared to the control at day 14. By day 35, there was a greater abundance of the Vibrionaceae family in the control and T3, compared to T6. At the genus level, a significant decrease in Celeribacter, Catenococcus and Epibacterium was identified in shrimp with food restriction compared to the control during compensatory growth (day 14), nevertheless, by day 35 no significant differences were observed..."es
