dc.description"Microalgae are photosynthetic organisms that produce compounds of biotechnological interest. Ettlia oleoabundans is an oleaginous microalgae that has a high lipid content. Due to its metabolic versatility, it is considered a candidate for the production of biomass rich in lipids to obtain biofuels. The objective of the study was to evaluate the changes in the biochemical composition of Ettlia oleoabundans cultivated in nutrient limitation, to define its potential in the production of high added value compounds. The cultures were carried out for 5 days under laboratory conditions (temperature 25 ° C; photoperiod 12: 12h light: dark; luminous intensity 62 μmol photon m-2 s-1; and continuous aeration), 6 replicates per treatment, 1.7 L volume final and 40% inoculum. Sterile seawater (35 UPS) was used as a culture medium added with fertilizer Fertiplus®, in two concentrations of nitrogen (882μM, control; 20μM, nutrient limitation). The in situ effective quantum yield Y(II) was determinated by in vivo fluorescence of the chlorophyll a of photosystem II (PSII), which was lower in nutrients limitation compared to the control, and was used as an indicator of stress in the culture. The results were: growth rate (control: 0.2 d-1 vs 0.15 d-1), biomass yield (control: 246.11mg L-1 vs 103.56 mg L-1) and biomass productivity (control: 49.22 mgL-1d-1 vs 20.71 mg L-1d-1). In the treatment with nutrient limitation, a decrease in proteins (control: 27 ± 0.84 vs 17 ± 0.40% DW), in pigments such as chlorophyll a (control: 1.6 ± 0.4 μg mg-1 vs 0.6 ± 0.08 μg mg-1 DW), chlorophyll b (control: 0.73 ± 0.20μg mg-1 vs 0.22 ± 0.08 μg mg-1 DW) and total carotenoids (control: 1.40 ± 0.47 vs 0.50 ± 0.10 μg mg-1 DW) were observed. There were an increase in carbohydrates (control: 15 ± 1.55 vs 26 ± 1.48%) and total lipids (control: 15.78 ± 3.43 vs 28.43 ± 0.17%). The total fatty acids profile was composed by saturated (30.31 ± 1.13%), monounsaturated (17.74 ± 2.87%), biunsaturated (21.01 ± 1.65%) and polyunsaturated (30.65 ± 4.52%) fatty acids. Additionally, fractions corresponding to neutral lipids (NL), glycolipids (AMPL) and phospholipids (PL) were analyzed, highlighting an increase of monounsaturated fatty acids in the NL fraction..."
