dc.description"In order to understand the variation patterns of vegetation cover in the state of Baja California Sur and promote ecological protection in the state, the temporal variation of the vegetation cover was analyzed by means of analysis of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). MOD13Q1 data with spatial resolution of 250m and temporal of 16 days were used to calculate the NDVI for the period from 2001 to 2016. Using the average, seasonality, anomalies, trend and correlation with climatic series, this study describes the characteristics of the spatial and temporal variation of vegetation in the state of Baja California Sur. The results showed that (1) the vegetation cover has high NDVI values in the southern portion of the state, in the areas of higher elevation (more than 500 masl) of the mountain ranges present throughout the entity and in the mangroves associated with the channels of the "Magdalena-Almejas" bay, and low NDVI values in the northern portion of the state and areas with elevations lower than 300 masl; (2) the beginning of the vegetation growth season in the state is in July, since the arid climate is strongly related to the few summer and winter rains, the end of the growing season is between months of March and April, where the period of low vegetation begins; (3) for the period in question, the years 2001, 2002, 2010 and 2011 were those that presented the greatest negative anomalies of NDVI, given that in those years there were intense "La Niña" climatic events, and with the opposite effect the years 2014 and 2015 are the ones with the greatest positive effects, given that in those years there were intense "El Niño" climatic events; (4) the majority of the entity presents positive and neutral trends, however, the southern portion, specifically in the municipalities of La Paz and Los Cabos, there is a marked negative trend, given that it is the area of the state where the Most of the population growth, there is a greater use of subsoil water, as well as agricultural, livestock, mining and tourism activities; (5) vegetation in the entity responds considerably to large-scale climatic events, with "El Niño" being the phenomenon that had the greatest influence..."
