dc.description"La evaluación de la actividad fotosintética en el océano y su variabilidad en el tiempo es tema prioritario en la investigación de cambio climático. Sin embargo, representa una tarea difícil debido a la falta de mediciones en campo. La capacidad de registrar sinópticamente el color del mar desde sensores remotos representa una alternativa prometedora, pero es necesario realizar caracterizaciones de la distribución vertical de biomasa fitoplanctónica y de parámetros de fotosíntesis, para subsanar las limitaciones de los satélites para registrar propiedades por debajo de la primera profundidad óptica. En el presente trabajo se cuestiona la propuesta de utilizar provincias biogeoquímicas de amplia cobertura espacial, utilizando el análisis de la distribución anual promedio de concentración pigmentaria en el Golfo de California como caso de estudio. Se proponen cuatro regiones dentro del golfo, las zonas norte, centro, sur y, adicionalmente, el área de las grandes islas, debido a que mantiene niveles altos de producción biológica todo el año. A partir de este ejercicio se sugiere que, como una primera aproximación para las estimaciones de producción primaria en el océano global, es conveniente considerar regionalizaciones de escala espacial amplia, como las provincias biogeoquímicas o los grandes ecosistemas marinos, y tratar de manera independiente los Centros de Actividad Biológica debido a la alta proporción de producción que aportan."
dc.description"The appraisal of the photosynthetic activity in the ocean, and its variability in time is a priority issue in the Climatic Change research. However, it represents a difficult task due to the lack of field measurements. The capability of registering synoptically the sea color from remote sensors represents a promising alternative. But it is necessary to characterize the vertical distribution of phytoplankton biomass and of photosynthetic parameters to correct for the limitations of satellites to register properties beneath the first optical depth. Using the analysis of the mean annual distribution of pigment concentration as study case, in the present work the proposal to use biogeochemical regions of ample spatial coverage is questioned. Four regions are proposed within the gulf, northern, central, southern, and additionally the area of the great islands because it maintains high biological production levels all year round. From this exercise it is suggested that, as a first approximation for the primary production estimation in the global ocean, it is convenient to consider regions of ample spatial scale, as the biogeochemical provinces or the large marine ecosystems, and to treat independently the Biological Activity Centers due to the high proportion of production they give."
