dc.description"With the objective of understanding the distribution patterns of the species of order rodentia in the State of South Baja California, an environmental constrained null model was used, from 248 localities, where 137 were sampled during 2004 and the other 111 were taken from the database of the mastozoology collection of the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas del Noroeste (Northwest Biological Research Center). Likewise, we had identified how the rodent’s species are distributed in relation to the mainland provinces and the percentage of occurrence in zoogeographic and mainland provinces. The model allowed us to obtain the percentage and probability of occurrence of the species, the most important variables to determine its presence, as well as the relationships between the analyzed species and their group based on its habitat preference. Most of the species tended to show low selectivity by environmental variables used in the model. The percentage of rocks and vegetation types were the variables that presented a bigger influence in determining the presence of the species. The species that presented the higher percentage of sites correctly classified by the model were Thomomys bottae, Peromyscus eva and Chaetodipus spinatus; where Neotoma lepida, Chaetodipus rudinoris and Ammospermophilus leucurus showed a low percentage. The Analysis of Principal Components revealed three species groups, the first group made up by C. arenarius, P. maniculatus and D. merriami; the second group composed by the C. spinatus and P. fraterculus; and the third group was included P. eva and N. lepida. The species not associate in groups were Ammospermophilus leucurus, C. rudinoris, T. bottae y D. simulans. The null environmental model reveals 13 positive interactions and five negative interactions between the species of rodents, being C. spinatus the species that presented bigger number of negative interactions. Among the majority of negative interactions between the rodent species of the same genus what is known as an imperfect competition was identified."
