Pearl oysters Pteria sterna and Pinctada mazatlanica are resources susceptible to be taken advantage of integrally. At the moment are the scientific bases so that this happens, nevertheless the control of the reproductive process, particularly in captivity, continues being the bottle neck, like in most of the industries around the culture of bivalve molluscs. Within the reproductive process, one of the aspects that have been treated very little is one of the dynamics of the main nutrients (carbohydrates, lipids and proteins) between different tissues related to the gametogenesis. P. sterna and P. mazatlanica have opposite reproductive cycles in time, reason why it is hoped that their strategies, as far as the storage and use of biochemical energy, were also different. A seasonal analysis of the storage and use of the main biochemical components was made in tissues involved in the gametogénesis process, using histological and biochemical indicators. With aid of the histological analysis, the different seasonality in the reproductive events from the two species was confirmed. By means of biochemical analysis it was found in both species and both sexes an increase in the protein concentration in the gonadal tissue during the gametogénesis process, and in the females also was observed an increase of triglycerides and lipids in this tissue. Parallel to this increase, occurred a decrement in the protein concentration in the adductor muscle in the two species, and a decrement in the protein concentration of the digestive gland of the P. sterna, reason why it suggests these reserves are destined to cover the gonadal necessities during its development. Neither of the two species seems to have affinity by the carbohydrate storage in tissues. Neither of the two species had a participation of the mantle like tissue of reserve in the reproductive activity, since the variations in their concentration did not have relation with the reproductive cycle. Apparently the reserves stored in different tissues are not sufficient to cover the necessities in the gonadal tissue during the gametogenesis process; reason why the food ingested recently is suggested has a majority participation in this process. It is suggested to make studies that relate the gametogenic cycle to the dynamics of nutrients in the field to confirm this hypothesis.
