dc.descriptionUno de los principales problemas que enfrentan las pesquerías a nivel internacional es la captura incidental (bycatch), dentro de este contexto es importante conocer los volúmenes de esta captura para todas las pesquerías a nivel nacional. En el caso de la pesquería de pelágicos menores en México, la cual constituye alrededor del 40% del volumen de producción pesquero a nivel nacional, se conoce muy poco de su captura incidental y no existen referencias formales ni cuantificación alguna disponible en México. Esté estudio evalúa la proporción de captura incidental para la pesquería de pelágicos menores del noroeste de México, se cuantifica el número de organismos que se capturan incidentalmente, se identifican en el laboratorio y se describe cada una estas especies. En el presente trabajo también se integra información publicada de los niveles de captura incidental en pesquerías que se encuentran certificadas por el Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) y de algunas que no cuentan con dicha certificación; esto con la finalidad de contrastar nuestros resultados y saber si esta pesquería tiene potencial para certificación. Con respecto a lo obtenido se concluye que la proporción de captura incidental en la pesquería de pelágicos menores en el noroeste México tienes niveles muy bajos, similares a las pesquerías que se encuentran certificadas actualmente.
dc.descriptionOne of the main problems facing international fisheries is bycatch; within this context it is important to know the volumes of this catch for all fisheries nationwide. In the case of small pelagic fishery in northwestern Mexico, which is about 40% of fishery production volume nationwide, very little is known of its bycatch and no formal references or quantification are available in Mexico. This study evaluates the proportion of catch for small pelagic fishery in northwestern Mexico. We calculate the number of organisms that are caught incidentally in the laboratory identifying and describing each of these species. This work also includes information published in the levels of bycatch in fisheries that are certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), and some that do not have such certification needed to compare our results and whether this fishery has the potential for certification. In view of the data obtained, we conclude that the proportion of bycatch in the small pelagic fishery in northwestern Mexico has very low levels, similar to those of the fisheries that are currently certified.
