dc.description"The fall in the production of the white-leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) in Mexico, is mainly associated with diseases outbreaks, deteriorated infrastructure and the use of obsolete technologies. To face the decline in the production, biosecure and economically efficient systems are required. The photo-heterotrophic technology is a hybrid system based on the balance between heterotrophic and autotrophic microorganisms, which occurs when there is stability in nutrients, an adequate dissolved oxygen concentration, and the necessary particle transport capacity, resulting from the use of aeration. The microalgae-bacteria aggregate serves as natural food source and controls water quality by degrading the products of uneaten food, dead plankton, and fecal feces, in non-toxic compounds, which leads to the stabilization of the system, allowing to eliminate the water exchange if the other parameters are controlled correctly. The objective of the present investigation was to characterize the intensive photo-heterotrophic system from a technical, biological, and economic perspective using a bioeconomic stochastic approach. Two production cycles were performed (spring-summer and summer-autumn) to produce information on, water quality, survival, FCR, yield and net profit. The hypothesis established was, if during the spring-summer cycle, the water quality is worse than the one registered for the summer-autumn cycle, then yields and the economic performance should be higher in the latter. For the spring-summer cycle, a yield of 13.5 ton/ha was obtained, with organisms of 13 g, and a survival of 83% in 105 days of cultivation, while for the summer-autumn cycle, a yield of 18 t/ha was obtained, with organisms of 18.5 g, and a survival of 80% in 92 days of cultivation. The bioeconomic model predicted that for a farm integrated by six ponds of 0.1 ha, at the end of the production cycles, with 95% confidence, the net profit will vary between $MX 115 550 and $MX 334 300/ ha (mean = $MX 222 930/ha) for the spring-summer cycle, and for the summer-autumn cycle between $MX 508,000 and $MX 814,000/ha (mean = $MX 690 000/ha)..."
