INDICADORES DE SUSTENTABILIDAD Y PESCA: CASOS EN BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, MEXICO

dc.description"En este trabajo se realiza un análisis acerca de la relación entre la sustentabilidad y la pesca a través de indicadores elaborados para el Estado de Baja California Sur en esta actividad extractiva. El trabajo aborda referencias internacionales sobre el concepto de sustentabilidad, así como la construcción de indicadores para expresar este concepto considerando distintas dimensiones como la ecológica, económica, social e institucional de gobierno. Así mismo se aborda el estudio de pesquerías de Baja California Sur a través de la información acerca de tendencias de captura y Nivel Trófico Medio de la Captura (NTMC). Lo anterior ilustra el grado de avance o limitaciones que se tienen para cada caso y a partir de esta evaluación preliminar se sugieren posibles caminos para fortalecer el uso de índices que ayuden a seguir el desempeño de las pesquerías y su nivel de permanencia en el tiempo o de su sustentabilidad. A partir del enfoque propuesto en este trabajo, con la información recabada en las distintas dimensiones (Económica, Ecológica, Social y Gobierno) propuestas por FAO (2000) será menester ampliar el análisis de sustentabilidad, transformando esta información en datos cuantitativos que permitan su “ordenamiento espacial” mediante técnicas estadísticas, para representar cada caso de pesquería tratado en este análisis, en una figura “isométrica” que permita una rápida, más fácil y comprehensiva identificación del status de sustentabilidad que presenta el uso de determinado recurso pesquero en Baja California Sur en particular y en otras latitudes en general. Con respecto al estado de salud de los recursos pesqueros del estado de Baja California Sur, el índice de captura IC y el NTMC sugieren una estabilidad de las pesquerías y en consecuencia es de suponerse que también en el ecosistema. Esta base de referencia, en lo general, permite suponer un marco de referencia adecuado para planificar desde ahora un desarrollo sustentable de la pesca."
dc.description"In this study an analysis about the relationship between the sustaintability and the fishing is carried out for the State of Baja California Sur. The study take into count international references on the sustaintability international concept, as well as the construction of index to express this concept considering distinct dimensions such as ecological, economic, social and institutional or of government. This study is undertaken on fisheries of Baja California Sur (B.C.S.) through the information on tendencies of capture and Trophic Average Level of the Capture (NTMC). This concept illustrates the degree of advance or limitation that have for each case, and as a preliminary evaluation, possible lines are suggested to fortify the use of indices that help to follow the fulfillment of the fisheries and their level of permanence in the time or of their sustainability. From the focus proposed in this paper, with the information gathered in the different dimensions (Economic, Ecological, Social and Government) as proposed by FAO (2000), it will be necessary to expand the analysis of sustainability, by expressing this information in quantitative data that permit its "spatial ordering" by means of technical statistics, to represent each case of fishery treated in this analysis, in a "isometric" figure that permit a quick, easy and sustainable identification of status that presents the use of specific fisheries resource in Baja California Sur. With regard to the state of health of the fisheries resources of the state of B. C. S., the index of capture Ic and the NTMC suggest a stability of the fisheries and the ecosystem. This reference, in the general permits to suppose an adequate framework of reference to plan a development sustainability of the fisheries."
