dc.description"This paper describes the growth of Cortes Geoduck clam Panopea globosa in the Gulf of California using a multi-model approach. Total and average data of length at each age were used to fit the models. Individual’s growth parameters were estimated by four models: von Bertalanffy, Logistic, Gompertz and Schnute. The parameters in each model and their confidence interval were computed by using the maximum likelihood method. The best model fit was selected using Akaike’s information criterion (aic). According to the aic the best description of the growth of P. globosa in this region was the Logistic growth model. The asymptotic length of the shell of Cortes Geoduck clam P. globosa off Guaymas (located in the central Gulf of California) was 122.2 mm (95% ci, 116.3-128.1) after averaging the estimates of the four models, compared to the average of total values (114.98 mm, 95% ci, 112.91-117.04 mm). The conclusions are that the multi-model inference and aic are robust methods to evaluate growth parameters for the studied species. It is also recommended to use only the raw data instead of averaged data."
