dc.description" Debido a la necesidad de contar con agua potable de manera sustentable para el desarrollo de la ciudad de La Paz, es importante conocer el balance hidrológico del acuífero para determinar cómo regular la extracción de agua subterránea. Partiendo de que la recarga vertical por lluvias en la cuenca de La Paz ocurre predominantemente en las zonas elevadas localizadas al este y sureste, la recarga del acuífero, el cual se localiza en el valle, se realiza principalmente por ujo subterráneo. Para estimar esta recarga se utilizó el método de ujo subterráneo aplicando la Ley de Darcy, con información piezométrica de la zona de explotación acuífera. Se estimó la recarga horizontal de agua dulce, intrusión de agua de mar, así como la recarga vertical por lluvias, en una supercie acuífera de 200 km2 (zona acuífera de explotación). Los resultados indican una recarga total de 22.98 Mm3 año−1, donde la intrusión de agua de mar es de 1.73 Mm3 año−1. Se estimó el balance del acuífero con la ecuación general de balance hidrológico incluyendo varias componentes importantes. Con una extracción de 30.78 Mm3 año−1 para el 2004 y una descarga subterránea a la Ensenada de La Paz de 1.90 Mm3 año−1, se estimó un balance de -9.70 Mm3 año−1. Se hizo una comparación de estimaciones de recarga y balance hidrológico de varios estudios. En todos ellos se destaca que la extracción es mayor a la recarga, y que el acuífero se encuentra sobreexplotado, por lo que es necesario tomar medidas para conservarlo. "
dc.description"The need to count on a sustainable supply of fresh water for the development of the city of La Paz makes it important to dene the hydrological balance of the aquifer in order to determine how to regulate the extraction of groundwater. Considering that the vertical recharge provided by rains to the basin of La Paz occurs mainly in the higher areas located to the east and southeast, the aquifer that is located in the valley is recharged mainly by underground water ow. In order to estimate this recharge, the underground ow method was used, applying Darcy's Law and piezometrical data for the area of aquifer exploitation. The horizontal recharge of freshwater, the intrusion of sea water and the vertical recharge provided by rains were estimated for an aquifer surface of 200 km2 (area of aquifer exploitation). Results provided a total recharge of 22.98 Mm3 year−1 with an intrusion of sea water of 1.73 Mm3 year−1. The balance of the aquifer was estimated with the general hydrological balance equation including several important components. With an extraction of 30.78 Mm3 year−1 for the year 2004 and a groundwater discharge to the Ensenada de La Paz of 1.90 Mm3 year−1, a balance of -9.70 Mm3 year−1 was estimated. The estimations of recharges and hydrological balances of several studies were compared. All stated that extraction is greater than recharge and that the aquifer is over-exploited, for which reason it is necessary to take measures to preserve it. "
